ABOUT MEGrowing up as a Khmer teenage boy who lives in a culturally significant country, Cambodia — also known as the “Pearl of Asia” — is truly an honor and a remarkable opportunity. Having a deep appreciation for art in my country has empowered me to become a true artist in my future. Everyday, I enjoy creating new art pieces, watching videos related to art, and researching art history and dance. These activities have been an opportunity to express my identity. Furthermore, marine biology and social science — specifically gender equity — are also my passions. I have already become a certified scuba-diver and a role model in the community who fights for gender equity. All of these passions give me a variety of ways to change Cambodia, my home.
Besides all of my passions, as a person, I always show great enthusiasm and friendliness. Currently, I am 18 years young and am always known as the “silly boy,” Venghour. |
Why ART?I truly believe I am born to inspire myself and others through art. I remembered when I was a naive five-year-old boy who always asked his uncle to draw something for him on his used-to-be the most favorite canvas, dirt, whether they are animals, plants, flowers, or house. The desire and curiosity for the art of mine always bring me to creating something unique and to transform art into something spectacular and impactful.

Why SCIENCE?Mainly, art helps me to portray my deep insights and emotions; however, science is a whole other thing. Unlike art, science is not the inherent passion I grew up with. Science became my interest when I first arrived at my project-based learning school, Liger Leadership Academy. For seven years, I always immersed myself in various science classes, such as biology, zoology, forest ecology, etc. The more I enrolled in those classes, the more I want to learn, ask questions, and explore. Therefore, as my love for science grows, I believe I can impact change, just like art.
